Variation in wind energy production

Wind conditions and wind energy production vary from year to year.

The variation in wind power production (MWh/a, MWh/m) has been studied by comparing months with maximum and minimum power production P calculated for a 3 MW wind turbine to average power production calculated in the Wind Atlas. Monthly variations PMax- PAverage and PAverage- PMin given in percentage (%) are calculated for each month at all heights in each 2,5x2,5 square kilometer grid (see the detailed maps). The average annual difference is calculated as a sum of selected months.

The average period as well as the Max and Min months have been selected by studying the average wind conditions over the whole country, instead of using wind conditions in each grid point, during the period of 1989-2007 (more in Chapter: selection of the reference period).
